Memphis festival showcases films

The On Location: Memphis International Film and Music Festival will be showcasing an array of films from around the world from April 7–10 at the Malco Ridgeway 4 Theater in Memphis.

For 12 years, On Location: Memphis has been striving to premiere quality independent films with the goal of inspiring filmmakers and students while connecting the audience to works of local and global filmmakers.

The festival will include live action and animated shorts, documentaries, music videos and live music. Panels and workshops will also be held to further educate filmmakers as well as the community on the independent film and music industry.

Independent films such as “Win Win,” featuring Academy Award-nominated actors Paul Giamatti and Amy Ryan, will showcase at the festival. The

story of “Win Win” centers on the life of a struggling attorney who volunteers as a wrestling coach and takes in the teenage grandson of a client. “Win Win” has already been gaining praise from critics.

Academy Award-winning actress Rachel Weisz will also be seen in the film, “The Whistleblower,” based on the true story of Kathryn Bolkovac, a Nebraska cop who served as a peacekeeper in post-war Bosnia.

Local filmmakers’ works will also be shown, such as “Children of the Wall,” an independent documentary that follows the lives of artists and their struggles in Berlin 20 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall.

High-class parties with celebrity attendees, such as award-winning actor Tom Berenger — most recently seen in Inception — along with the filmmakers, should create a memorable weekend for all in attendance.

The lineup of the films to be shown, along with additional information on the festival, can be found by going to On Location: Memphis’ Facebook and Twitter pages. Passes are available on their website — www.onlocationmemphis.org — to attend for a single day or for the entire festival with reasonable pricing for students.
