A red double-decker bus parked on the Great Lawn attracted much attention from the Union community and its Family Weekend guests Sept. 29.
The bus, which was renovated to be a rolling thrift store, is part of the Red Bus Project of Show Hope, a non-profit orphan care ministry that provides financial aid for families wanting to adopt.
The Red Bus Project spreads awareness about the needs of orphans and raises money through donations and clothing purchases. All profits from the project go toward providing orphans with forever families.
The double-decker bus was filled with clothes and accessories and drew many visitors.
Chris Wheeler, director of student initiatives for the Show Hope organization, said that this is its second visit to Union and that students here understand they can make a difference, even while they are still in college.
“There are over 140 million orphans in the world, and a little difference can go a long way to help end this crisis,” Wheeler said.
Olivia Skelton, sophomore English major, said the Red Bus Project is a good way to make a statement and to grab people’s attention regarding the work the organization is doing.
“Since I know my purchases are going to help the orphans, it makes me more secure about supporting them,” Skelton said.
