At Homecoming this year, students ice skated on the Great Lawn.
Along with the ice skating rink, a 15-foot snow globe was available for posing inside for pictures.
Homecoming was moved to February because of the division change from NAIA to NCAA.
The game schedule for basketball started later, in November, making it more difficult to host Homecoming in the first week, as there were no games at that time, said Josh Clarke, director of alumni relations.
As a result, Homecoming was moved toward a more central part of the season. Clarke also said events were chosen to reinvent Homecoming.
Clarke declined to say how much money Union spends on the event other than to say that later contributions from donors make up what was spent from the budget.
The ice skating, along with other events, was anticipated to increase participation and interest. An unspecified company provided everything needed for ice skating, Clarke said.
Union’s class of 1963 also celebrated its 50-year reunion during the weekend of celebrations.
