After recently completing the transition as active members to NCAA Division II, Friday marks the first home games of the season for Union University’s women’s soccer, men’s soccer and women’s volleyball.
First up, women’s soccer will play Friday, September 12th at 5:00 p.m. against Martin Methodist College.
“It should be a good, challenging game. Martin Methodist used to be our biggest rival in the NAIA TranSouth Conference,” said Eliza Clark, senior athletic training major.
“I enjoy weekend home games a lot, especially ones with a great crowd that rallies behind us,” Clark said. “Come early to watch the Lady Bulldogs; we would love to see a ton of students cheering us on.”
Next in line, is men’s soccer against Oakland City University (Ind.) on Friday, September 12th at 7:00 p.m. The game will directly follow the women’s game.
“Come out and support Union athletics and men’s soccer,” senior physical education major, Andrew Blackard said. “We expect it to be a hard fought match and hopefully we can pull out the win in the end.”
Blackard is new to the team this year. He said, “I am excited to play under the ‘Friday Night Lights’ of Union University.”
Last but not least, women’s volleyball hosts two conference games this weekend.
On Friday, September 12th at 7:00 p.m. the Lady Bulldogs play the University of West Alabama. On Saturday, September 13th at 2:00 p.m. the Lady Bulldogs play Mississippi College, who is in its first year of transition to NCAA Division II and the Gulf South Conference.
“This is our first time to play Mississippi College,” senior public relations major, Lydia Wright said, “And West Alabama is a very competitive team that usually gives us a tough match, so hopefully we will be ready for them.”
Wright said, “As a team, we love when we have bigger crowds show up to our games and actively cheer.”
Don’t miss out on the many opportunities to show school spirit and cheer on the Bulldogs this weekend!
