The LSAT measures students’ reading comprehension, analytical and logical reasoning skills, according to the Law School Admission Council website.
Many of the students taking the free exam are considering law school beyond graduation. Students will receive their test scores immediately afterward.
“I am strongly considering law school and this is a good way to find out how much I will need to prepare,” said Eddie Echeverria, sophomore political science major.
Evans has been offering the practice LSAT to Union students for several years, giving students an opportunity to experience the testing environment and format before they take the real exam.
Evans said the practice exam serves as a benchmark for underclassmen who would like to see where they are in the skill areas the LSAT evaluates.
“This will be a more accurate predictor of my actual test results than answering a few questions from a practice book,” said Allison Pulliam, junior broadcast journalism and political science major. “If I do poorly on a particular section of the practice LSAT, I will know to concentrate my studying on that section,”
The practice test is administered exactly as the real LSAT is, including five 35-minute sections of multiple-choice questions and a 35-minute writing sample afterwards.
“Since Union is offering a realistic testing environment, I hope to get a good impression of all aspects of the test,” Echeverria said.
Echeverria and Pulliam suggest that if anyone is interested in law school, taking the practice LSAT cannot hurt.
Both students are still deciding on where to go to law school but Pulliam said her dream school is Georgetown University. Both are interested in criminal law.
The practice exam will take place Sept. 13 at 8:30 a.m. in Blasingame Academic Complex room 41.
Evans said anyone interested in taking the exam should email him at sevans@uu.edu no later than Thursday, Sept. 11.
