The Lady Bulldogs were unable to pick up a win in their series against rival Shorter University, losing both softball games with scores in 0-8 and 1-10.
“Shorter is a great team. If we made a mistake, they would capitalize on it,” said junior pitcher Kelly Robey. “They are a very good hitting team, and that is something we didn’t do well against them.”
The Lady Bulldogs struggled to hit, collecting just seven hits and one run in the series, while allowing 22 hits and 18 runs for Shorter.
Robey took the loss in the first game, and freshman pitcher Hailey Cummings took the loss in the second game of the series.
“Our pitching was not at its best this weekend either, but it is still early in the season,” said Robey.
Robey said she hopes the Bulldogs will get a chance for a rematch against the Shorter University Hawks at Nationals, just like they did last season.
Both the Bulldogs and the Lady Bulldogs were scheduled for a Sunday afternoon rubber match with Shorter, but due to bad weather conditions, the games had to be cancelled.
