On Saturday, May 2 Barefoots Joe will be hosting their final concert of the 2015 spring semester. The coffee house welcomes Nashville natives, KiND followed by ELEL.
ELEL is an Indie Pop band who’s single, “Kiss Kiss” was recently featured on an episode of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy.
KiND is an electro pop band with a more fun, upbeat tempo to their five person band.
Chris Hare, junior digital media studies major, is a member of the Barefoots leadership team and will help with the sound and mixing during the concert.
“We wanted to make sure this concert was something upbeat and summery,” Hare said. “We have only one senior on the leadership team this year, and so we wanted to make it a fun show for him. Both of these bands are really upbeat and ‘dancey’ and so it is going to be a really good end to the semester.”
Brady Heyen, senior philosophy major, is the lone senior on the Barefoots leadership team and has been a part of the team for the past three years.
“Being a part of the leadership team has really shaped me during my time at Union,” Heyen said. “I have been able to guide the music and art scene on our campus, which is something I am really passionate about. I also have been able to get a ton of experience I never would have otherwise.”
Heyen has yet to see either of the bands perform live but is familiar with each of them.
“I’m excited to see how Union responds to these two artists,” Heyen said. “They are both a little different than what we usually bring in, but I hope people will still be into it.”
Hare is excited about connecting with the incoming local bands as he is also from Nashville.
“I have seen several interviews and things on social media on each of these bands and they seem very positive,” Hare said. “They each want to make sure that people have a good time, which is really cool, so I am excited to make connections with such positive people.”
As Heyen stated, students can expect to hear a newer sound on Saturday night, something they would not normally expect from a Barefoots show.
“One thing we as a leadership team are trying to do is expand and diversify the sounds at Barefoots,” Hare said. “We are trying to attract more people and what they are interested in, and so this weekend is going to be a good example of a newer sound that Barefoots hasn’t heard before, as it is energetic and has more of a groove to it.”
Concert time is set for 8 p.m. To learn more about the incoming bands, check out ELEL and KiND on their Facebook pages.
