Russell Richardson of Maryville, Tennessee has begun his time at Union thinking about the future.

“I’m excited about lasting friendships, my business degree and being able to say I’ve graduated college,” Richardson said.

with a minor in economics, Richardson is hoping to own his own business-consulting firm in the future.

Of the courses he has taken, he has enjoyed introduction to debate and his honors beauty course. He is most excited to take the honors justice course.

“I just really like the stuff I hear about it,” Richardson said, “talking about the world’s problems and how to solve them.”

In his spare time, Richardson enjoys outdoor activities. He has a kayak that he enjoys taking on the water or using it as a makeshift sled on snow days.

“Working out, playing Frisbee, ping pong, hiking, kayaking, mountain biking. If it is outside and fun, I’d probably do it,” Richardson said.

In high school, Richardson was a competitive swimmer. He swam both freestyle and butterfly strokes.

Another hobby of Richardson’s is swing dancing. He began when a class was offered last semester and has continued to pursue it.

“It is a lively dancing,” Richardson said, “you can do it with anyone. It is a good workout.”

Since coming to college, Richardson has gotten involved on campus. He is a member of the debate team, honors and Enactus. He has enjoyed being on the debate team the most so far.

“I like getting knowledge in a wide variety of topics,” Richardson said, “and debate makes you do that. You can also talk about moral and just questions as well [as academic ones].”

Looking forward to the three and a half years he has left in college, Richardson is most excited about the opportunity to grow.

“I am independent and able to make my own decisions,” Richardson said. “I am surrounded by godly people who I can support and can support me. I feel like I am becoming a lot more developed, this environment where God has me has given me the opportunity to thrive.”
