Paige Tang, senior music major, came back onstage to enjoy her standing ovation after allowing her family and friends enjoy the applause at her senior recital Tuesday April 14.
Music runs in the family for Tang, whose father was the conductor of the Jackson Symphony for over 20 years. Tang herself has been playing violin for 19 years, beginning a little before she turned three years old.
Tang’s recital involved four pieces that were important to Tang and her musical style. She performed the Bach G minor sonata, which she said “is an important piece in a violinist’s repertoire.”
She chose the last piece, Adoration, because she wanted to share her recital with the other violin majors at Union. She performed the other song with her father Jordan Tang on piano, and the three other music majors who are studying violin at Union, Grace Carbonell, Elizabeth Tomyn and Lydia Cronk.
The piece was arranged by her father, who has arranged the piece for various different string instruments. Tang asked for her father to write a four violin version just for the recital.
“He is a musical genius so I really appreciate his work in adding such a beautiful piece to my recital,” Tang said.
Tang said she loves music because it allows her to perform and share music with other people. Many of her best friends play music as well.
“It’s a beautiful gift from God to be able to play music,” Tang said.
After graduating from Union she plans to attend DePaul University in the fall for a masters in music performance. She said that even though she isn’t sure how long school will take, music will always be a part of her future.
