In a time when there seems to be a lack of genuine artists in the music industry, Ben Rector shows up out of the woodwork and takes the indie music world by storm.
Rector’s most recent album, “The Walking in Between” was released in August 2013. The album debuted at No. 16 on the Billboard 200 chart.
Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Rector quickly discovered he wanted to pursue his music. In 2006, Rector was the youngest person to ever win the Grand Prize in the pop category of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest, with his song “Conversation.”
Rector continued to seek his career in music and songwriting by moving to Nashville, Tennessee in June of 2009.
After moving to Nashville, Rector released his third album “Into the Morning” on February 16, 2010. The album reached No. 11 on the Billboard’s Top Heatseekers Chart.
Throughout the next year Rector supported a variety of different artists including Dave Barnes and Five for Fighting in order to promote his new music.
In September of 2011, “Something Like This,” Rector’s fourth album was released. Following the release, Rector headlined the “Good Time Tour” which expanded over 25 cities. Over half of the tour’s dates were sold-out in advance.
While promoting “Something Like This,” Rector was the direct support for NeedToBreathe, a Christian rock band, during their “The Reckoning” tour in 2012.
In the summer of 2013, Rector once again headlined his own tour, “The Rectour.” The tour included 32 cities and two countries with multiple sold-out dates along the way.
Rector’s most recent and most well-known album, “The Walking in Between,” was the first release on Rector’s own record label, Aptly Named Recordings. This album includes “Beautiful,” the first single from the album, where he reminisces on youth and how life is much simpler when we are young.
On this album, he explains the title by singing, “there are way too many love songs, and I think they’ve got it all wrong, ’cause life is not the mountain tops, it’s the walking in between.”
“The things that make me truly happy are the ordinary things, like my friends and playing music,” Rector said. “That’s what we’re made to enjoy. We’re made to connect and to have a conversation. That is the real stuff worth celebrating.”
Rector is currently on tour with NeedToBreathe and Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors for the beginning of 2015.
