Kathlin White

For Kathlin White, senior business administration major, cheering is a no brainer.

White has been cheering since the second grade. While she took a break after her senior year of high school, she has since picked it back up during her final year here at Union.

“I went to the first tryout here at Union and I knew it’s what I wanted to do,” White said. “But I decided not to because it was hard given the fact that I was commuting. If it was possible, I would have cheered longer.”

White enjoys cheering at Union because of the lasting friendships she has made over the past year and loves the participation with the crowd and players during the games. White’s favorite memory from cheering has been the fun practices and the laughter that has been shared between all the girls.

White has definitely enjoyed her time here at Union.

“You could not have paid me to go anywhere else,” White said. “I love it here.”

After White graduates, she hopes to stay here at Union and get her MBA and be a merchandise buyer for a company that sells clothing or cosmetics.

White is involved in other activities as well. She is a member of Zeta Tau Alpha, a charter member of the American Marketing Association at Union and has also interned at CH Robinson for over a year.

“One piece of advice I would give is to be confident and give it everything you have because you will get out of it what you put into it,” White said.

Sarah Ford

Sarah Ford, senior psychology major, has been cheering for 14 years and has been on a competition squad since she was seven.

“Cheering is a part of me,” Ford said. “It’s something that I felt I had to do.”

Ford has cheered all four years here at Union and has enjoyed it because it plugged her into the school. Cheering has helped her to make many friendships, she said. Ford also likes that cheering is a way for her to disconnect for a while and focus on something other than school.

“Cheering is amazing and it has always been a dream to cheer in college and Union gave me that opportunity,” Ford said.

Ford’s favorite memory during her four years as a cheerleader at Union came from her freshman year when the team traveled to the girl’s basketball NAIA national championship in Frankfort, Kentucky.

“It was a great way to get to know the girls by just shopping and going different places during our time away,” Ford said.

Ford said she has definitely enjoyed her time here at Union, saying it has given her  opportunities that she would not have if she had gone anywhere else. Ford is also a senior in Chi Omega sorority and was an ambassador for about two years.

After she graduates, Ford will be working for National American Miss and help them put on pageants. She also plans to apply for grad school.

“I would encourage students to get involved,” she said. “Find your passion and get plugged in.”
