On Tuesday night, April 7, Union baseball fell short of Trevecca Nazarene University with a final score of 2-7.
The Trojans started off the game with two quick runs in the first inning. By the third inning TNU had increased their lead to 4-0.
Austin Orr, freshman exercise science major and shortstop for Union’s team, brought the Bulldogs into the game by hitting a double in the bottom of the third inning, scoring Daniel Mathis, junior biochemistry major and outfielder for the team, and Trae Bain, junior exercise science major and third baseman for the team, to bring the score to 2-4.
“Weaknesses would be our hitting,” said Davis Shoemaker, sophomore exercise science major and shortstop for the team. “We hit some hard shots, but as a whole we need to execute better.”
Trevecca continued to increase their score with runs scored in the fourth, fifth and eighth inning, to bring the final score to 7-2.
“We played a very good defensive game,” Orr said. “We didn’t have any errors and made all the routine plays so we had a pretty good day in the field.”
This season the Bulldogs have lost multiple players early on due to NCAA regulations and injuries. This loss brings the Bulldog’s overall record to 7-28 on the season.
“As a team I think our outlook on the rest of the season is to have fun and play like it could be your last game,” Shoemaker said. “You truly never know when your last game will be so we just have to relax, have fun and play the game that we love.”
The Bulldogs stay at home for their next game against West Alabama with a double header on Saturday, April 11.
“At the end I want us to look back at these last three weeks and say that we played to glorify God and left a legacy of Christ like winners on and off the field.” Orr said.
