The Union Choir’s upcoming Fall Choral Concert will be held Oct. 27 at the First Baptist Church in Jackson at 7:30 p.m. First Baptist Church hosts this event every year. It will be a 90 minute concert, which will feature all three of Union’s choirs.
The Cantilena, the women’s choir, will sing five to six numbers conducted by David Dennis, Professor of Music. The 12 student ensemble, Voices of Proclamation, who are fresh off a regional tour in Tennessee, will also be preforming, conducted by Scott Shepherd. The University Singers will preform as well, led by Dan Musselman, Chair and associate professor of music.
While walking through a hall filled with fellow music majors, Matthew Norville, senior church music major, said he’s excited about his last shows and doesn’t want to leave yet.
“I love Union, I love the music department, and the music that we get to make together,” Norville said. “We get to glorify God together, and that’s something special that you don’t get in most music departments.”
This show will make Norville’s 14th show performed in the choir and his first show conducted by Musselman.
“[It’s a] beautiful space [with] great acoustics for our choral concert,” Mussleman said, expressing his gratitude for the lasting relationship between First Baptist Church and the Union Choir. “The size of the church is wonderful. It’s just a really good space for us.”
Musselman mentioned that Union also has their band and orchestral concerts at First Baptist in addition to their choral concerts.
The Fall Choral Concert, located at 1627 North Highland Avenue in Jackson, will be completely free and open to the general public for their listening pleasure.
