The Lady Bulldogs showed their team chemistry in a dominating 6-0 win Friday night against Spring Hill College with six different players scoring and five different players with an assist.
The game started off with neither team gaining an edge over the other for the first seven minutes. Hannah Hewett, junior nursing major, was able to drill the ball to the top of net from close distance for the lone goal of the first half. There was no shortage of opportunities for either team but no one was able to find the back of the net.
Five minutes into the second half Taylor Knight, freshman business major, kicked off an onslaught of goals with a header on a an assist from Madison Studstill, junior biology major. The Lady Bulldogs attacked aggressively leading to many good opportunities and shots on goal. Austen DeLoach, sophomore business marketing major, had an assist to her roommate Madison Wirth, sophomore sports management major, who then returned the favor on the next possession.
“We’ve all come together a lot this year and it’s starting to come out on the field and hopefully we can carry this on for the rest of the season,” DeLoach said. “It was also really cool to get a double goal with [one of my roommates].”
This is the first win of the season for the Lady Bulldogs after a three game skid against two conference teams and the third ranked Columbus State University. However, Head Coach Isaac Brooks is optimistic about the rest of the season following this strong performance.
“We’ve been playing hard but we needed a big game like this so it feels good,” said Brooks. “Actually I do [think that the moment will carry on] because the girls have been training hard and when it finally pays off the hard work goes for the rest of the season.”
The Lady Bulldogs will play at home again on September 22 against Shorter University.
