On Wednesday, March 14, the sisters of Kappa Delta invite the Union community to come eat at McAlister’s Deli from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. to help support Prevent Child Abuse America.
Along with the good conversation and McAlister’s famous sweet tea you are bound to have, you will also walk away knowing that you have supported a great cause. According to the organization’s official mission statement, “[Prevent Child Abuse America’s] vision is a nation in which no child is ever abused or neglected, and believes that with the help from the public, policy-makers and corporate partners, that this idea can be made a reality.”
“All the funds will be going to Prevent Child Abuse America and also a portion of them will go directly to Prevent Child Abuse Tennessee,” Jordan Crawford, Kappa Delta community service vice president and sophomore biology major, said. “This is a philanthropy that is so needed because a lot of people don’t know about it and it is something we really need to pay attention to.”
Since 1981, the Kappa Delta sorority has played a large role in joining forces with this organization, which was originally founded by one of their very own Kappa Delta sisters, to make a change. The organization is able to make a difference by advocating for the voiceless and mentoring those that have been neglected and abused. To date, the national sorority has given more than $23 million to Prevent Child Abuse America.
The sisters of Kappa Delta have made their hearts for service very clear through different events they sponsor on campus throughout the year. It’s important for them to not only team up with the community to raise awareness and money for different initiatives, but also to live out God’s calling for them through acts of service.
“I think it’s a great focus because working to make sure that people don’t have to be victims of child abuse is just a really special thing,” Kiley Wilson, freshman psychology and art therapy major, said about Prevent Child Abuse America when discussing the best part of supporting Kappa Delta’s philanthropies.
Give Cobo a break on Wednesday night and head on over to McAlister’s to grab dinner and be greeted by the lovely ladies of Kappa Delta as they walk around refilling drinks and cleaning off tables. You won’t want to miss out on fellowship in the name of yummy cookies and a great cause!
