Union University’s Ryan Center for Biblical Studies is hosting the 9th annual Bible Conference on March 15 and 16.
Throughout the ages, the Bible has been the destination for the revival of God’s people. The conference will elaborate on this idea that God is the ultimate source for this refreshment and renewal. The focus will be on receiving a fresh touch from an ancient text: the Bible.
Ray Van Neste, dean of the School of Theology and Missions and director of the R.C. Ryan Center for Biblical Studies, is one of the speakers for the conference’s parallel sessions.
“I love this opportunity we have to address our broader community and to provide further help in interpreting and applying the Bible,” said Van Neste. “My hope long term is that these conferences help strengthen our local churches by helping pastors and members grow in their grasp of God’s Word.”
The conference will kick off on Friday, March 15, with the plenary speaker, Jim Shaddix. Shaddix is a professor of preaching at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He is the author of “The Passion Driven Sermon” and “Decisional Preaching,” and he is also the co-author of “Power in the Pulpit“ and “Progress in the Pulpit.”
On Friday, Shaddix will be speaking on “Scripture and the Community of Faith” from Nehemiah 8:1-12. The conference will continue on Saturday, when he will speak on “Scripture and the Glory of God” from Psalm 19 and “Scripture and the Growth of the Church” from Acts 6:1-7.
Throughout the conference, faculty from the School of Theology and Missions at Union University will lead parallel sessions on varying topics, including interpreting and applying the Bible. Faculty leading these sessions include Kevin Chen, Brad Green, Paul Jackson and Ray Van Neste.
“I’m always excited to have the opportunity to teach God’s Word whether it’s in class, at a conference or behind a pulpit in Mozambique,” said Jackson, professor of biblical studies. “Teaching includes interacting with those present in order to affirm that the biblical truths are communicated clearly. I am also looking forward to learning from our plenary speaker, Dr. Shaddix, who will inspire and exhort us in the faith.”
The cost for the conference is $50 and includes the parallel sessions, two meals and a continental breakfast. Registration and more information is available at https://www.uu.edu/centers/biblical/bible-conference/2019/.
