Union will be hosting its annual Israel study tour this spring, from May 17-27. Faculty leaders include biblical studies professor Dr. Mark Dubis and Provost Dr. John Netland.
Each spring, Union partners with Passages, an organization centered around providing first-hand experience of Israel to college students. Passages helps cover most of the cost of the trip, providing a much more affordable option for college students of around $750.
“I’m very excited about getting students to the land of the Bible,” said Dr. Mark Dubis, professor of biblical studies and one of the lead organizers of the trip this year.
On the trip, students will visit archeological and historic sites, such as the Sea of Galilee, Nazareth, Bethlehem and the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.
“There’s so many different sites that you could see and go to,” said junior biblical studies and languages major Hunter Martin. “The atmosphere alone is amazing and breathtaking.”
As well as learning about the historic nature of the area, students will also have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the current socio-political context of Israel.
All Union students are welcome to apply; however, preference will be given to students enrolled in Dr. Dubis’ Old or New Testament Survey during the April accelerated semester this spring.
There are 41 seats open, and the application will be sent to those who sign up for the mailing list by contacting Dr. Dubis at mdubis@uu.edu or the school of theology and missions academic secretary, Jennifer Chicanteck, at jchicantek@uu.edu.
An informational meeting will also be held on September 27 at 2 p.m. in the presentation room in the Logos.
