On Friday, Oct. 25, the art department will host its 2D sale in the Student Union Building from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
In years past, the art department has hosted two separate sales: the graphics department’s poster sale and the painting department’s painting sale. This year, the two sales have been combined. There will be paintings, cards, posters, postcards and collages made by Union art students for sale.
Abby Wolfzorn Ruby, senior art major with an emphasis in painting and sculpture, is heading up the sale this year. Ruby and other members of the art department have decided to combine the two sales in hopes of creating more unity through the different departments as well as providing more work for students and customers.
“We encouraged students to bring whatever it is they’re passionate about, whether it be painting, drawing, printmaking, etc.,” said Ruby.
For the art students participating in this sale, the process of making items to sell has helped them look forward to a professional future.
“Through making posters and notecards, I’ve learned to think about what pieces will sell better than others and to make things that will appeal to a wide variety of students and faculty,” said Chloe Thomas, sophomore graphic design major.
Ruby also hopes that this 2D sale will help highlight the success and creativity of the art department. Union’s art department has been ranked number one in the South two years in a row for Christian college art departments.
“The students and faculty work hard, and we love getting to share the passion with the Union body,” said Ruby. “It gives Union a chance to support what we’re doing, and it gives us a chance to share with Union.”
The art department invites both students and faculty to come and support the art students on Friday.
