Painting A Picture: A Women’s Event Hosted By The OUM

On Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 8 p.m. Union University’s office of university ministries will be hosting a women’s event in the Bowld Commons gym to foster community and discuss global missions.

The event will bring women from all walks of life together for a night of painting, coffee, baklava (a Middle Eastern dessert) and discussion on global focusses for missions.

Jenna Mincy, a junior graphic design major, and Aleah Petty, a junior Christian studies major, are two leaders on GO Leadership teams who combined efforts with Julie Bradfield, director for mobilization, to bring about an event that would foster an open atmosphere for women to come together and disciple one another in the Great Commission commanded by Christ.

Women from any organization on Union University’s campus are welcome.

This event takes place each year to kick off Global Focus Month, a month dedicated to bringing awareness to the unreached and persecuted nations.

“I’m so excited for our women’s event because of the opportunity it holds for growth to happen in the women’s community here on campus,” said Mincy. “Our goal is to create an environment that allows women to get to know other women they wouldn’t meet otherwise and to encourage them to pursue meaningful conversations with each other.”

The environment will not only consist of painting, refreshments and discussion, but Mincy, Petty and Bradfield have collaborated to decorate the Bowld in a comforting manner. Circular tables will be spread out around the gym, tapestries will be hung on the walls and string lights will create a gentle glow along the inside of the gym to foster intentionality in missions-oriented conversations. GO Leadership teams desire women to see the need for the gospel to be spread to other women and on a larger scale of the nations.

“This event provides an opportunity for the women on our campus to learn about other parts of the world, how God is at work, and how their lives interact with that,” said Bradfield.
