The men’s and women’s soccer teams recently finished their regular seasons and are preparing for their respective GSC tournaments.
The Union men’s soccer team had a strong regular season, finishing 3-1.
“We have been working to put together the final pieces of our game and finding ways to unlock the full potential of our team which we know we have,” said Gavin Scott, junior midfield/forward and exercise science major.
Since their fall season was postponed, the team has tried to take advantage of every opportunity to improve.
“We just had to make the most of whatever got thrown our way and take every positive out of it,” said Scott. “We are all just buzzing to be able to play games and have the chance of winning something.”
The men’s team earned a home game in the Gulf South Conference tournament as the No. 2 seed.
The Lady Bulldogs soccer team struggled throughout the regular season, finishing 0-5 with back-to-back overtime losses to finish out.
“As a team, we know that with every game, we have been getting better,” said Claire Maxon, freshman forward and exercise science major. “With every game, we are learning more about each other and our strengths as a team. We’ve been improving every day, and I believe we’re starting to hit the stride we need.”
Maxon scored the only goal for the team in their regular season.
As the women’s team heads into their postseason, they are ready to compete and prove themselves to their competitors.
“We are looking to shake things up in the bracket,” said Maxon. “We are going in as an underdog, with many people and other teams doubting us. We have plans to surprise many.”
The women’s team will play in the Gulf South Conference Spring Championship Series against the University of Montevallo at Montevallo on Thursday, March 18 at 3 p.m.
The men’s team will host Lee University on Saturday, March 20, at 3 p.m. for the quarterfinals of the Gulf South Conference tournament.
