Delight Ministries held its fifth meeting of the fall semester at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 28, welcoming to campus the midwest south regional director for Delight headquarters.
Delight is a women’s ministry that can be found on college campuses across the United States. Delight Ministries came to Union University in the fall of 2019 when Delaney Sain and Suzanne Rhodes, now Union alumnae, decided to bring the organization to their own campus.
Kelsey Napier oversees 18 different Delight chapters over four states. As a regional director, she works with the team directors and the Delight chapter leaders to make sure everything is running smoothly and answer any questions they may have.
“I can really truly be myself and be loved, just like how Jesus loves me at Delight,” Napier said. “It has given me so much more than I could ever give back to it. Delight truly is probably one of the best things that has ever happened to me.”
The mission of delight is to invite college women into a Christ-centered community that fosters vulnerability and transforms stories.
“Obviously Delight is a women’s ministry, but it is also a community that I can be real with,” Mallory Reid, a senior education major, said.
“I can be quirky and weird and honest about what God is doing in my life, and know that these girls are going to support me,” Reid said.
At Delight, the women work through a Bible study that Delight headquarters creates. This semester’s study is called “Known.” The purpose of the study is to help girls know Jesus, know who they are in Jesus and make Jesus known.
Each week, the study provides passages from the Bible to be read along with a lesson. With the weekly lesson, the book also provides personal testimonies from girls who have been involved with a Delight chapter.
Meetings begin with one of the Delight leaders talking through what had been read during the previous week’s study. Attendees then break into small groups and discuss questions about the lesson.
The women of Union’s campus can become involved with Delight at any time.
“It’s easy, you just need to show up!” Reid said. “We obviously want people to show up consistently, but if midway through the semester you are having a hard time, you can show up and be loved on by these girls.”
Delight Ministries meets every Tuesday at 7 p.m. either on the Bowld patio or in Bowld 247, depending on weather.
