The Union University women’s golf team traveled to Murfreesboro, Tenn. on Oct. 18 to compete in the Music City Invitational hosted by Trevecca Nazarene University.
The team placed tenth in the two-round event, held at the Old Fort Golf Club. Eighteen teams were represented with 95 total golfers.
The Lady Bulldogs were in seventh place after the first round with 311. However, a 318 in the final round dropped them to 10th place. Union finished the two-day event with a total of 629 (+53).
Aubrie Cagle was Union’s top finisher when she tied for 20th place with a 79, 76-155. Kallie Robertson had a T26 (73, 83-156), Cecily Berry finished T37 (80, 79-159), Nicole Taylor finished T27 (79, 80-159) and Emma Korte finished with T59 (80, 84-164). Karlie Alexander competed as an individual for Union and finished T46 (77, 83-160).
“I think we have learned a lot about how to encourage each other and build each other up even if we are not playing our best,” said Taylor, a junior pharmacy major. “This is something that we did very well at this tournament.”
The team had never competed at the Old Fort Golf Club, meaning the course was completely new for a lot of the team.
“It is so fun to be able to see so many new and different courses that most of us have never played and to experience that with our teammates,” said Taylor.
When asked what she thought the team did well at the tournament, Korte, a senior athletic training major, said, “I think that we were all pretty solid off the tee and with our irons. I would say it is the strongest part of most of our games.”
The team enjoys tournaments because of the time it gives them to bond with their teammates while playing the sport they are passionate about.
“My favorite thing about tournaments is the time that we get to spend as a team. Whether on the bus, at meals or at the hotel, I love that we can all get together and have fun and make memories,” said Korte.
The Lady Bulldogs will compete again on Oct. 25-26 at the Tulsa Cup hosted by Rogers State University in Claremore, Okla.
