On Nov. 1, Union University will host its annual Bulldog Madness with a “White Out” theme to kick off the start of the men’s and women’s new basketball season.
The night will begin at 6 p.m. with a tailgate in the Fred DeLay Gymnasium parking lot with provided food and drinks that will encourage everyone to attend.
Jordan Little, senior shooting guard, is excited about the outcome of Bulldog Madness this year.
“It’s fun way to bring the student body and athletes together,” Little said.
Bulldog Madness begins at 7 p.m. and will open by introducing all the basketball team players. Their introductions are an opportunity to show off their personalities for the entire crowd to see.
“I’m glad everyone is getting to know me,” Justin Debuck, junior point guard, said. “Showing them what we are about as a basketball program.”
“I’m excited for the season to start and getting the word out there,” Little said. “And to encourage students to come to our games and support.”
The night will be filled with many competitions, such as a 3-point shot competition and a dunk contest between the men’s basketball team.
“This year — I think — going to be the most fun it’s ever been,” Little said.
Bulldog Madness shows appreciation to the basketball teams as their seasons approach and helps encourage participation among the student body to attend games.
“We have appreciation for the staff and whoever is in charge of Bulldog Madness for trying to bring awareness to our games,” Little said.
Two student games will be held. One is a game where organizations competing for the homecoming cup will participate in a scavenger hunt at 7:30 p.m.; the other is a hula hoop and rock paper scissors game at 8:00 p.m.
Union’s University homecoming court will also be presented at 8:05 in the Fred DeLay Gymnasium.
The night will end with a half-court shot made by a student from a raffle drawing. The prize for making this shot will be full scholarship tuition for a semester sponsored by Union’s office of Undergraduate Admissions.
The first home games of the season are scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 5, in the Fred DeLay Gymnasium. The women’s team will play against Illinois Wesleyan University at 2 p.m., and the men’s team will play Cumberland University at 4 p.m.
