Friday, Feb. 10, will mark the launch of the latest edition of the “Journal of the Union Faculty Forum,” which will feature literary works from faculty members across all of Union University’s departments.
Since 1976, professors and faculty members of Union University have been coming together to contribute to the “Journal of the Union Faculty Forum,” better known as The JUFF. This edition will feature pieces from contributors such as Ted Kluck, Beth Madison and David Ward.
“Every fall, the editors of JUFF send out a call to all faculty at Union,” Chris Bailey, editor-in-chief of the publication, said. She described how she integrates The JUFF into one of her classes: introduction to editing and publishing.
“A new volume of the ‘Journal of the Union Faculty Forum’ is published every fall. The in-house journal is designed and edited by students,” Bailey said.
The JUFF is a publication that not only unites faculty to faculty but brings students into the mix as well.
“You don’t get to work with professors and be very vulnerable with them and have them be vulnerable with you in a lot of settings,” senior English major Philip Trandel said. “Editing, it gave us that.”
Trandel is a student editor of the JUFF and has enjoyed his time in the class. He remarked how it has grown his own writing and editorial skills as well.
“I’ve just become more critical of my own writing, how I edit other people’s work, and also making sure to be very positive with your contributors,” Trandel said.
This year, for the first time ever, Bailey will be hosting an event to promote and honor those who contributed and worked on the JUFF.
Trandel commented on the event, calling it, “A fun sort of celebration that allows editors and contributors to get together and just enjoy the release of the most recent publication.”
This event, called Java and JUFF, will take place in the Bowld on Tuesday, Feb. 7, from 3-4:30 p.m. The release of the publication will follow shortly after on Friday, Feb. 10. Copies of the JUFF will be available in the English department.
