On March 11, at 7:00 pm in the G.M. Savage Memorial Chapel, Chi Omega hosted its first magic show, “Magic for Miracles,” starring Steven Brundage, semi-finalist magician from Season 11 of “America’s Got Talent.”
Chi Omega is currently holding its annual “Wish Week,” a week dedicated to multiple fundraisers and events for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the sorority’s philanthropy.
“It is exciting to bring awareness and opportunity to our community,” Madison Griffin, a sophomore digital media communications major and sisterhood chair for Chi Omega, said. “At the end of the day, we want to do as much as we can to grant a wish for a kid.”
Kaylee Phillips, a junior special education major and philanthropy chair for Chi Omega, spent countless hours planning the event. Phillips’ inspiration for the event started with dreaming big and reaching out to a multitude of performers.
“I got in touch with Steven and everything fell into place,” Phillips said. “He was super excited to help us with this fundraiser.”
Brundage made his first appearance on America’s Got Talent in 2016 and has since appeared on ABC’s Good Morning America, NBC’s Today Show and others.
“I think it is exciting that we get to do something new and something bigger than we have ever done before,” Sydnie Arnolds, double psychology and social work major and president of Chi Omega, said. “I think it’s just a special opportunity to serve people who are so strong.”
“I loved this event and am so thankful my position in Chi Omega allowed me to plan this and bring Steven Brundage to Union,” Philips said. “This truly was a magical night!”
Chi Omega sold nearly $1000 in ticket sales alone and received over $600 in donations.
Chi Omega will continue its Wish Week with an upcoming pickleball tournament on Friday, March 14, at 5:30 pm. The organization hopes to complete its fundraising goal and grant a wish this year.
