For February, Modero has done something out of the ordinary and created a limited-time drink menu, offering a variety of new flavor combinations and options. This week, I also did something out of the ordinary by drinking coffee and giving some of these new flavors a shot.
In addition to Modero’s quality selection of drink styles and flavors, five new syrups were introduced for February only: pistachio, almond, rose, cherry and strawberry. The menu was expanded to use these new flavors, adding six new lattes and four new cold drinks. To better understand the hype, I trekked through recent snowstorms and tried three of these new drinks for myself.
The first I tasted was the Pistachio Baklava Latte, described to be made using “pistachio and honey with cinnamon powder.” As someone with zero understanding of coffee, I was surprised by how much the honey and milk lightened and sweetened the drink. The earthy notes from the pistachio and cinnamon helped level out the flavor and made for a solid taste that mixed between the coffee and cream layers.
Next I tried the Summer Fruit Sparkler, which sounded like an optimistic sort of drink considering the harsh winter weather this February. It is made with “peach and cherry syrup served iced with soda water.” This was a light, peppy sparkling drink and the syrup flavors work together well without competing too much. This drink certainly appeals to customers like myself that have complicated relationships with hot and cozy drinks, insteading offering a more refreshing experience.
Finally, the Strawberry Shortcake Latte was evaluated. “Strawberry puree and sweetened condensed milk” are the combination for this new latte, and opting for whipped cream and strawberries on top feels like a must. This drink approaches the bitter espresso head on with its sweet elements, but without falling into the pitfalls of an over-sugared coffee. The hits of strawberry were also enjoyable touches.
These three drinks, along with seven other limited-time combinations, will be available until the end of February at Modero’s location in The Logos. Visit Modero’s Instagram page for further information.
