Union University Dedicates New Academic Building: The Ethos Forum

On Friday, March 21 at 2 p.m., Union University dedicated a new academic building for business, engineering, and computer science: The Ethos Forum. Students from the Union University Music Department led worship and University President Samuel W. “Dub” Oliver, along with other members of Union’s faculty, gave a dedication speech and special thanks to all of the project partners. They held a ribbon cutting and then opened the Ethos Forum to the audience for a reception.

“This is the place where we come together to live out our faith and to express our faith, where it moves through our minds and hearts to our hands, and how we go about life in the world,” Oliver said.

Inside of the three-story academic complex, Union Students showcased the new features of the Ethos Forum. Some of these new features include an entrepreneur showcase room, highlighting small student-run businesses and a maker studio, a creative space for students to explore technology and business. The centerpiece of the Ethos Forum is the atrium, complete with workspaces, large windows and geometric light features.

“I do think it’s interesting because everyone’s eyes immediately go up, and I think that’s kind of really what we hope that the building will be in sort of a metaphorical sense, like that our eyes will be drawn to the work ahead of us for sure, but for the preeminence of Christ in the work and guiding the work that we do,” April Rowsey, Assistant Professor of Business Management said.

Members of Union’s faculty are not the only ones who are enthusiastic about this new addition to the Great Lawn.

“Being able to see the natural light through the classrooms and anywhere else is going to be really helpful because it’ll give more of like a life inside,” senior Digital Media Communications Major Hope Bitter said.

“It’s a great day at Union, wouldn’t you agree?” Oliver said.

Classes will begin in The Ethos Forum on Monday, March 24.
