The Vocatio Center at Union University hosted its annual Career Fair on Jan. 28-30 in the Carl Grant Events Center. Various businesses were represented each day, and students from specific departments were in attendance.
The first day had business, engineering, computer science, IT and healthcare representatives from 2-4 p.m., giving students the opportunity to speak with professionals in their career field. Some of the businesses were CoreCivic, The Tennessee Treasury Department and Fastenal.
The second day had education and social sciences represented from 2-4 p.m. The third day had ministries, missions and non-profits, with organizations like the International Mission Board and Connect Camps from 2-3:30 p.m.
“I’m looking for a full-time position after I graduate in May,” Michael Kirk, a senior mechanical engineering major at Union said. “In the engineering field, [I’m] kind of looking towards any design work or any project engineering, … or even in the power industry as well.”
The fair enabled students to be introduced to some of the jobs in their field and to gain a better understanding of their career goals after graduation.
“I’m not looking for a full-time job yet,” Emma Claire Hays, a sophomore business major said. “Even if I don’t walk away with a job opportunity from this, it’s always good to network, and if anything else, just practice interacting professionally with people.”
The Career Fair is hosted annually by the Vocatio Center to help students network with professionals in their field.
“We hope that students get the network with employers all across the nation and especially in Western Tennessee,” Veronica Perry, director of the Vocatio Center said. “We hope the students get to gain meaningful employment either by internships, job shadowing or jobs after graduation.”
One of the benefits for students in registering for the Career Fair was being entered to win prizes such as a tablet, Amazon gift cards, a Bluetooth speaker and Union merch.
