By Katherine Burgess Managing Editor Over the summer, supporters of gay marriage led boycotts while advocates of traditional marriage launched an “Appreciation Day” amid the flood of controversy surrounding the fast food chain Chick-fil-A. Both […]
To what extent do our surroundings influence the people we grow up to be?
This is a question I have been asking myself a lot lately. Jackson, like many cities in the United States, is very much divided across racial and socioeconomic lines.
How many times have we as Union students been told to stay away from the east side of the city and keep out of the South? How often do we take that advice and stick exclusively to the North — within the bubble of our brick buildings and nice neighboring grocery stores and restaurants? […]

As the dissonant cacophony drones on, the punch-drunk candidates aim lower, exchanging cheap shots in commercials, debates and robocalls. It seems winning the presidency requires a lot more than an idealistic vision or a charismatic personality. […]
How soon is too soon to laugh at the mass murder and oppression of a people? Will it ever have been enough time?
Sacha Baron Cohen’s “The Dictator” hits theaters this May, a comedic portrayal of an Arab dictator on tour in America. Premiering just a year after the grueling Arab Spring, the film begs the question: Where do we draw the line between sacred and satirical? […]
